Mark Schubert studied composition at the University of Iowa receiving a Bachelors Degree in 1978. His Principal teachers were Peter Lewis, William Hibbard, Richard Hervig and Donald Jenni. His piece for Electronic tape won 4th place in the Festival International de Musique Experimental in Bourges, France 1978 Bouges, France.
His principal focus has been performing in orchestras (Symphonic/Broadway/Pop) as timpanist or percussionist. While performing in the Lake Placid Sinfonietta (17 Seasons) he started writing for the ensemble and had his In the Midst of the Mountains performed and recorded by the LPS. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra performed the same piece in 2000 at a reading for its Fresh Ink Competition. He is gradually adding more arrangements and compositions to his portfolio while still busy as Timpanist for various ensembles in the Miami area.
